The article presents the results of an all-Russian study of civic-patriotic values in a modern school. The psychological and pedagogical conditions for the formation of patriotic and civic values have been analyzed. In order to find the factors that determine this situation, an analysis of the patriotic values of schoolchildren was carried out, including the following sections: objects of identification; image of the Motherland; life goals and patriotic values; life position and socially significant activity; preferences and plans.

The presented article is undoubtedly relevant and timely. This relevance is due to geopolitical global events and serious problems in domestic education associated with a low quality level of civic and patriotic education of Russian schoolchildren. The article analyzes the basic concepts of the problem field being studied, and also substantiates the main directions of ensuring civil and patriotic education of students of general education organizations.

The conclusion is made about the need to find new effective ways to form patriotic education in school.

The article actualizes the role of civic identity in the process of personal and professional development, determines the importance of culture for the formation of civic ideas and patriotic feelings. The article presents the results of a comparative empirical study of students of psychological and pedagogical areas of training from Russia and the People’s Republic of China, where the subject of comparison was verbal and figurative ideas about the Motherland and patriotism.

This article analyzes fiction about the Great Patriotic War as a means of educating patriotic qualities in future officers. The features of the image in the literature of the events of the Great Patriotic War in different years of the Soviet period and in post-Soviet Russia are shown, the specifics of the use of fiction about the Great Patriotic War in the patriotic education of cadets of military universities in various historical periods are revealed. Approaches to depicting the events of the war years changed significantly, as did the methods of patriotic education of cadets. The changes that took place during the collapse of the USSR were especially tangible in this regard, however, to this day, the cultural heritage left by writers whose work touched on the theme of the Great Patriotic War is preserved and remains important in educational terms.

The article presents the results of a survey of teachers in five regions of the Russian Federation, conducted as part of a study of the realities and prospects of civic-patriotic education in school. This article discusses the possibilities of application and educational potential of training as a method of forming a sense of patriotism. The program of psychological and pedagogical training “My patriotism”, tested on cadets of educational organizations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, is given. The order of application of the method under study in the educational practice of the university and the prospects of its use are descrybed.

The article discusses two important phenomena for pedagogical psychology. This is a sense of patriotism and value-affective polarization of the Russian population. The problem of education and formation of patriotism in the conditions of value-affective polarization of society and its role in the destruction of political stability is considered. The analysis of various ideas of specialists about patriotism in different periods of the country’s history, as well as citizens’ ideas about the psychological characteristics that a patriot should possess, is carried out. The issues of the effectiveness of programs for the education of patriotic feelings among young citizens of Russia and various opinions of experts on this issue are discussed.
