The article describes the process of formation of foreign language productive lexicgrammatical skills among university students studying the Catalan language after Spanish. The author gives a brief description of the current situation in the field of teaching Romance languages, including Catalan. The article conducts a study of the most appropriate approaches to training, provides a description of the target, content, technological and performanceevaluative components. The methodology proposed in the article includes an algorithm developed by the author and also contains a description of the conditions necessary to achieve the goal. The results of the study are important for the creation of Catalan language textbook, as well as the curriculum for the elective course.
