The article is devoted to the problem of the development of pedagogical culture of an officer of the Russian Army. It shows the role of culture and pedagogical culture in the formation of the spiritual and moral image of the individual in the past and in the current conditions. The essence, content, structure of the officer’s pedagogical culture and the directions of its improvement are considered.

The article deals with the issues of improving the military-pedagogical process of military police units in the aspect of developing a culture of military labor safety. The authors touched upon the problem of the need to form a modern approach to the education of military police officers and proposed options for its solution. The legal acts regulating the service activities of the military police were studied and the features of the work of these units were identified.

The article briefly reveals the main events and circumstances that took place during the preparation and defense of the candidate’s (1951–1954) and doctoral (1960–1968) dissertations of one of the founders of the theory of military pedagogy, Honored Scientist of the RSFSR, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, Major General Alexander Vasilyevich Barabanshchikov (06.12.1924 — 17.02.1997). The content and style of leadership of dissertation research of applicants by A.V. Barabanshchikov are characterized.
